WHITE RABBIT RESIDENCY

Red Clay Farm, Economy, Nova Scotia
August 10th-17th , 2014
Deadline: April 20th 2014
White Rabbit is a week-long artist residency in which emerging and established artists set up camp at beautiful Red Clay Studios to practice, create and collaborate. The residency culminates in a public festival for the performance and exhibition of individual and collaborative works that have emerged over the course of the week.
White Rabbit Open Air Arts Project is an immersive outdoor experience.  We encourage artists from a broad range of disciplines (textiles, dance, theatre, ceramics, paint, poetry, philosophy, words, audio, documentary, film, performance, music, you-name-it!) to push the boundaries of their practice, and work together to create the environment that is formed collaboratively and individually in response to the unique landscape.
Red Clay is an Eden and thus, is not equipped with many infrastructural amenities (although there there is good access to internet and to technical resources). Artists-in-residence traditionally pitch tents in the apple orchard next to the organic gardens, and bathe in the pond, solar showers or take a dip in the Bay of Fundy.  (other accommodations are available – we aim to be accessible!).
The cost for participants is $285 and covers 8 days including workshops and presentations by senior artists, field trips, use of site facilities, all meals, and accommodation (camping or lofts). White Rabbit seeks to achieve culinary excellence: food is locally-sourced and prepared by qualified chefs.

Interested artists should submit the following by April 20th, 2014:

1. A brief description (max 1 page) of your proposed project while at White Rabbit – please include ideas/concepts you will be exploring, materials and any tools that you will need. We encourage projects that are harmonious with the environment, therefore please specify and justify the proposed use of any unnatural materials.
2. A brief artist biography including your current place of residence, previous work and media (1 page max).
Submissions should be sent by email or post:
email: whiterabbitarts@gmail.com
Postmarked before or on April 20th: PO Box 35, Bass River, NS. B0M 1S0

RABBIT ISLAND

Rabbit Island is a 91 acre forested island in Lake Superior three miles east of Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula. The island is composed of a native ecosystem standing upon solid bedrock and has never before been developed or subdivided. Bald eagles and great blue herons nest in the trees and the surrounding waters provide habitat for thriving lake trout and salmon populations. The majority of the island is held under a conservation easement granted by the Keweenaw Land Trust assuring it’s unique ecosystem will remain healthy in perpetuity. A very small cabin is planned over the next several years which will be sustainable and built using the rocks and wood on the island. Rabbit Island will serve as a platform for science, art, preservation and recreation for the generations.

VS VS VS Summer Residency Program 2013

Open Call: Summer Residency Program 2013

We are triple pleased to re-announce the VSVSVS Summer Residency program for its third summer!
The annual residency program will be held at the VSVSVS warehouse for the month of July. We will work with the selected artist(s) to determine exact dates for the residency and the subsequent exhibition. We are looking specifically for dedicated artists that will make a valuable contribution to our collective environment while participating in our events and functions.

Information:

The residency is offered to any practicing artist in any media from anywhere (groups or collectives are also considered). The length of the residency is negotiable ranging anywhere from one week to one month, depending on the wants and needs of the artist(s). The artist's stay will culminate in a show or event (or workshop, or screening, or whatever...) at the VSVSVS Gallery. The residency provides 24 hour access to the 14 ft. x 20 ft semi-private VSVSVS Gallery which will serve as studio space and, later, the exhibition space, as well as access to the fully equipped VSVSVS Woodshop. It is mandatory that the artist utilize the space: you gotta be there or we will be sad and miss you.   Studio visits with other artists, curators and VSVSVS members is strongly encouraged (we love an open dialogue). The artist must make a concerted effort to invite other members of the arts community to VSVSVS for studio visits and events. No materials or expenses are provided by VSVSVS except the studio space itself. VSVSVS will help with promotion and exposure of the residency program and the subsequent exhibition.   Project proposals do not have to include a specific end-point. Actually, we think it's important that the experience of being here can help guide the work, so some open-ended-ness is encouraged.

MOST IMPORTANT: The residency is free
APPLICATION FEE:  $0.00 (no fee)

Submission packages should include:

A letter of introduction, outlining the individual’s past artistic experience, and other relevant information (no more than 500 words)
 A curriculum vitae
• A brief project proposal (no more than one page) Images of past work + PDF image list with size, title medium (JPG, maxwidth 600 pixels, 72 dpi)
OPTIONAL: A link to something awesome

DEADLINE: May 17/2013 before midnight

We look forward to hearing from you.

We only accept submissions via email.
