Tangled Art + Disability Call for Board of Directors Members
Tangled Art + Disability is a registered charitable organization with a mandate to support Deaf, Mad and disability-identified artists, to cultivate Deaf, Mad and disability arts in Canada, and to enhance access to the arts for artists and audiences of all abilities. Located in a dynamic arts complex of galleries, studios, festival offices and like-minded arts and community groups in Toronto, Tangled is a rapidly growing cultural leader in the area of disability and arts.
Tangled Art + Disability is seeking Board of Directors members who will bring dedication and vision into our organization. We require persons with a variety of qualifications such as financial expertise, fundraising, donor relations, legal, policy development and human resources knowledge as well as familiarity with contemporary disability arts.

The Tangled Board of Directors is a working/policy Board and each member is expected to attend bi-monthly meetings (six per year) and commit to serving a two-year term. In addition to adhering to Board governance and overseeing the finances of the organization, ideal candidates will also help develop and implement strategies that will generate revenue, attract new supporters and build the gallery’s profile. Commitments of each Board member include:
1. Regular attendance at Board meetings and important related meetings. 2. A commitment to participate actively in priority work as it arises. 3. Staying informed about board matters, which include preparing in advance for meetings, and reviewing and commenting on minutes and reports.
4. Getting to know other board members and building a collegial working relationship that contributes to consensus. 5. Getting to know and staying informed about the programming activities of the organization and of the arts community in Toronto generally. 6. Participation in fundraising for the organization.
Board members are volunteers and therefore cannot be financially compensated for their work, or exhibit at Tangled while being on the Board.

Potential candidates for the Tangled Art + Disability Board will be interviewed in May to determine your eligibility to run for election. Successful candidates will be notified by May 17, 2019 and they will be invited to begin their term in June. Candidates must be officially elected at the November, 2019 Annual General Meeting (AGM) where their names will be added to the slate of nominees put forward for election.
