IF WALLS COULD TALK: THE GLADSTONE HOTEL’S EXPERIENTIAL ILLUSTRATION SHOW

The Gladstone Hotel seeks expressions of interest for contemporary, experiential projects for its inaugural illustration event, If Walls Could Talk. This group exhibition will take place next March 6–16, 2014 at the historic Gladstone Hotel in downtown Toronto.
If Walls Could Talk will challenge Canadian and international artists to work outside their traditional practices—to occupy and alter spaces in dramatic, conceptual, or experimental ways. The majority of the site-specific work will be localized on the hotel’s second floor, but we encourage applicants to consider proposing projects for all public spaces throughout the hotel.
We encourage artists to participate independently, in collaboration with a partner, or as a team. Ideal candidates for juried consideration are practitioners who approach their disciplines with a radical personal vision. These artists/designers use illustration—or a practice related to illustration—to converse, connect, collaborate, and construct. Successful projects will create delight in the unexpected.

VS VS VS Summer Residency Program 2013

Open Call: Summer Residency Program 2013

We are triple pleased to re-announce the VSVSVS Summer Residency program for its third summer!
The annual residency program will be held at the VSVSVS warehouse for the month of July. We will work with the selected artist(s) to determine exact dates for the residency and the subsequent exhibition. We are looking specifically for dedicated artists that will make a valuable contribution to our collective environment while participating in our events and functions.

Information:

The residency is offered to any practicing artist in any media from anywhere (groups or collectives are also considered). The length of the residency is negotiable ranging anywhere from one week to one month, depending on the wants and needs of the artist(s). The artist's stay will culminate in a show or event (or workshop, or screening, or whatever...) at the VSVSVS Gallery. The residency provides 24 hour access to the 14 ft. x 20 ft semi-private VSVSVS Gallery which will serve as studio space and, later, the exhibition space, as well as access to the fully equipped VSVSVS Woodshop. It is mandatory that the artist utilize the space: you gotta be there or we will be sad and miss you.   Studio visits with other artists, curators and VSVSVS members is strongly encouraged (we love an open dialogue). The artist must make a concerted effort to invite other members of the arts community to VSVSVS for studio visits and events. No materials or expenses are provided by VSVSVS except the studio space itself. VSVSVS will help with promotion and exposure of the residency program and the subsequent exhibition.   Project proposals do not have to include a specific end-point. Actually, we think it's important that the experience of being here can help guide the work, so some open-ended-ness is encouraged.

MOST IMPORTANT: The residency is free
APPLICATION FEE:  $0.00 (no fee)

Submission packages should include:

A letter of introduction, outlining the individual’s past artistic experience, and other relevant information (no more than 500 words)
 A curriculum vitae
• A brief project proposal (no more than one page) Images of past work + PDF image list with size, title medium (JPG, maxwidth 600 pixels, 72 dpi)
OPTIONAL: A link to something awesome

DEADLINE: May 17/2013 before midnight

We look forward to hearing from you.

We only accept submissions via email.

Please send submission packages to admin@VSVSVS.org
